Money O Money — Brand Guidelines
Identity
-
Name: Money O Money
-
Category: Household financial statement analysis, offline/local-first
-
Naming pattern: a natural spoken phrase, following In My Head’s lead, rather than a coined word or literal descriptor. Chosen after several rounds of collision-checking against existing apps — see the Decisions Log in the product scope doc.
-
Logo/wordmark mark: not yet designed. Current reference mockups use a text-only wordmark. Whether an icon/symbol accompanies the wordmark is still open.
Typography
-
Typeface: IBM Plex Sans, for both the wordmark and body text.
-
License: SIL Open Font License — free for commercial use, no attribution required in-app.
-
Weights in use: 400 (body), 500 (labels/section titles), 600 (headings, buttons), 700 (wordmark, large figures like the spend total).
Color
Palette Selection
Four candidate palettes were compared in a mobile-layout mockup
(money-o-money-palette-comparison.html) before selecting one. The
brief deliberately avoided green/sage-green (the finance-app default,
associated with a "safe/growth" feeling this app wanted to differentiate
from) and avoided red as a brand color (reserved for error/alert
semantics only, per standard convention).

Tertiary Seed
The picked palette’s four tones sit close together in hue (~310°–344°, essentially one magenta/mauve family), which works for primary/secondary but doesn’t give Material’s tertiary role real hue separation on its own. Following the same hue-relationship approach as the Color Relationship Lab tool (analogous/complementary/split-complementary/triadic), a triadic tertiary was generated at approximately 120° from the primary hue, landing on a muted teal-blue:

Avoid green/sage-green and red as brand colors |
Green is the finance-app default being deliberately avoided; red reserved for error states |

Tertiary seed confirmed as triadic teal-blue ( |
Primary/secondary seeds are too close in hue to serve tertiary’s role; triadic relationship avoids green/red |
