asciitor 1.5 Release Notes
Broad plain-text editing, format-aware previews, a calmer Focus reader, and a dedicated source-editor typeface in asciitor 1.5.
asciitor 1.5 grows from an AsciiDoc-first app into a local editor for human-readable plain-text files, while retaining Asciidoctor for its dedicated AsciiDoc preview and export workflow.
Highlights
Plain-text files are first-class
-
Open plain-text documents from asciitor’s picker or an Android file manager, including UTF-8 and UTF-16 content.
-
Binary-looking content is rejected before it can be opened as a document.
-
A shared format registry identifies familiar document types while keeping unknown readable text available for editing and saving.
Preview where it helps
-
AsciiDoc remains the full Asciidoctor-powered reader, with its existing preview and export capabilities.
-
Markdown now uses its own CommonMark renderer with autolinks, tables, task lists, and strikethrough.
-
HTML and SVG have static, locked-down previews that disable document JavaScript, network access, and local or content-file access.
-
Plain text, JSON, CSV, XML, YAML, TOML, configuration, and source-code files stay in a direct Edit mode without an unnecessary Preview toggle or AsciiDoc export.
-
Markdown preview typography now reliably loads every selected bundled reader font.
Google Play "What’s new"
Version 1.5 makes asciitor a more capable local plain-text editor. Open and edit readable text files, preview Markdown, HTML, and SVG when rendering is useful, and keep data and code formats in a focused Edit mode. AsciiDoc continues to use Asciidoctor for preview and export, while the updated Space Mono editor and calmer Focus Preview make writing and reading more comfortable.
